Digital asset management for US ecommerce

Agency Specialized in DAM Integration for Ecommerce

As a DAM integration agency, we start from the system itself: a digital asset management (DAM) system stores your product images, videos and documents. Your store, your product feeds and search engines only benefit if each asset is tied to the right product and described in a way they can read. We handle the catalog side: file names, alt text, image attributes and product-to-asset mapping. We do not sell or configure DAM software; we prepare the catalog data so the assets your DAM stores can be used correctly.

At Avafa Consulting we review how your product assets are named, described and linked to your catalog, and we hand your team a clear list of fixes.

What DAM means for ecommerce

A DAM is only as useful as the catalog data attached to its assets.

Digital asset management is the practice of storing, organizing and sharing digital files, such as product photos, videos and documents, in one place. For an online store, the question is not only where the files live. It is whether each file is linked to the right product and carries the information that search engines and shopping channels need.

Google’s image guidance for Search recommends descriptive file names, descriptive alt text on every image, sharp high-quality images, image sitemaps to help discovery, and the image property in structured data. The Google Merchant Center product data specification adds its own rules for the main product image: a stable URL, minimum dimensions and no overlays or placeholders. A DAM can hold all of this, but only if someone defines the rules.

What is at stake right now

Assets

Every asset tied to a product

Each image, video and document needs a clear link to a product or variant in your catalog.

Search

Images search engines can read

Descriptive file names and alt text help Google understand what each image shows.

Feeds

Feed-ready product images

Main images follow the Merchant Center rules, with no watermarks, overlays or placeholders.

Asset checks

What we check in your product asset data

Most image problems in a catalog come from a short list of avoidable causes. This is the list we work through on every project.

Image guidance follows Google Search Central documentation and the Google Merchant Center product data specification. The rest of the table summarizes the method we follow at Avafa.

What we do at Avafa Consulting

What our DAM for ecommerce service includes

From the first review of your asset library to the checks on your product feed: we cover the catalog and SEO side of how your assets are named, described and used.

01Starting point

Asset and catalog audit

We review how your assets are named, described and linked to products, and we list the gaps between your DAM export and your catalog. That list decides what to fix first.
02Planning

Naming and metadata rules

We define a naming pattern and the fields every asset needs, such as product identifier, alt text and image role, ready for your team to apply in the DAM.
03Catalog

Product-to-asset mapping

We match each asset to its product or variant, flag products without images and assets without a product, and document the rules.
04Search

Image SEO review

We review file names, alt text, image formats, image sitemaps and the image property in structured data against Google’s image guidance.
05Feeds

Feed image checks

We check main and additional images in your product data against the Merchant Center specification, and we coordinate with our Google Merchant Center service when the feed needs work.
06Ongoing

Periodic review

We re-check new uploads against the agreed rules and report what drifts, so the library stays consistent as the catalog grows.
Is it right for you?

When you need a DAM ecommerce agency, and when you do not

It usually fits when

  • You keep product images and files in a DAM or a shared asset library.
  • Your catalog is large and has many variants per product.
  • The same images feed your store, marketplaces and product feeds.
  • Images cause disapprovals or warnings in your product feed.
  • Your developer connects the DAM and you need an owner for catalog data and SEO.

It usually fits worse when

  • You need someone to choose, license or configure DAM software.
  • You want us to build connectors or custom code between systems.
  • You need photography, retouching or video production.

In those cases your DAM vendor, developer or integrator handles the system, and we handle the catalog data and the SEO. Businesses that often benefit include manufacturers, distributors and ecommerce brands with large catalogs.

How we work

How we work, step by step

  1. Free audit. We review a sample of your assets, your product pages and your product feed.
  2. Inventory. We list the asset types, the naming in use and how assets link to products.
  3. Rules. We agree the naming pattern, the required metadata and the image requirements per channel.
  4. Mapping. We document which asset belongs to which product or variant and flag the gaps.
  5. Review. We check the store pages and the feed against the rules and report what to fix.
  6. Ongoing checks. We re-check new uploads and report what drifts.
Measuring results

How we measure whether the asset work paid off

Success is not a bigger number. It is a catalog where every product has the right assets and nothing blocks them from being read. We define the baseline before we change anything so the comparison is fair.

  1. We record how many products have a main image that meets the rules, and how many have none.
  2. We record the image issues reported for your feed in Merchant Center.
  3. We record the share of product images with descriptive alt text and file names.
  4. We compare the same checks after the fixes, and we note image impressions and clicks in Search Console over time.

Search results change for many reasons. What matters is that each issue has an explanation and an owner.

First weeks

What to expect in the first weeks with a DAM ecommerce agency

We do not promise results or timelines. What we do describe is the order of work, so you know at every moment what is being done and why.

Phase one: inventory and rules

We review a sample of your assets and product data, list the gaps and agree the naming and metadata rules with your team.

Phase two: mapping and checks

We document the product-to-asset mapping and check the store pages and the feed against the agreed rules.

Phase three: fixes and ongoing review

We put each issue in writing with its fix and its owner, then re-check new uploads as the catalog grows.

Common mistakes

Common mistakes with product assets in a DAM

  • Exporting files with generic names like image1.jpg instead of descriptive ones.
  • Reusing one photo across different products, which Merchant Center does not allow for the main image.
  • Adding watermarks, promotional text or logos to the main product image.
  • Publishing images below the 500 x 500 pixel minimum for product feeds.
  • Changing image URLs on every export, when feeds need stable URLs.
  • Filling alt text with keywords instead of describing the image.
Connected systems

DAM, PIM and ERP: where our work fits

A DAM holds the files, while a PIM or an ERP usually holds the product data. Many US stores search for DAM integration when they want the two to line up. We do not implement DAM software or build the connection; your DAM vendor or developer does that. What we own is the catalog and SEO side: which asset belongs to which product, how it is named and described, and whether your store and feeds can read it.

A clean asset library also serves your shopping channels. See our work on Google Merchant Center feeds, catalog integrations and eCommerce SEO. If your catalog data comes from a PIM or ERP, see ACE for PIM and ERP.

What we need from you

What we need to get started

The earlier we see your asset data, the sooner we can list what needs fixing. Ideally we start before a DAM rollout or a large catalog import, when naming and metadata rules are still easy to set.

If your library already exists, we start with an export and a sample of live product pages, and work from the differences. Either way, we agree in advance who applies each fix.

  • An export of your asset list, or a sample, with the product identifiers.
  • Access to your product feed, or to the Merchant Center account.
  • Read access to Google Search Console for your store.
  • A contact at your development or DAM team for changes in the system.
One job, several names

DAM integration, digital asset management for ecommerce or product image SEO: what the search covers

Whether you search for DAM integration, a DAM ecommerce agency or digital asset management for ecommerce, the job that matters for your catalog is the same: making sure every product asset is findable, correctly linked and readable by search engines and shopping channels.

What we own

The catalog and SEO side: asset inventory, naming and metadata rules, product-to-asset mapping, image SEO checks and feed image reviews.

What stays with your DAM vendor or developer

Choosing and configuring the DAM, building or maintaining any connection to your store, and applying the changes in the system. We hand over specifications and review the result.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about our DAM ecommerce agency

What is digital asset management for ecommerce?

+
It is the practice of storing and organizing product images, videos and documents in one system and linking each file to the right product. For ecommerce, the value depends on naming, metadata and the connection between assets and catalog.

When do I need a DAM ecommerce agency?

+
When your assets are hard to match to products, your images cause feed warnings, or you are about to roll out a DAM or import a large catalog. The earlier we see the asset data, the more we can plan instead of repair.

Do you implement or integrate DAM software?

+
No. Your DAM vendor or developer chooses, configures and connects the system. We work on the catalog and SEO side: the rules for names and metadata, the product-to-asset mapping and the checks on your store and feeds.

Does Google care about image file names and alt text?

+
Yes. Google’s image guidance recommends short, descriptive file names rather than generic ones like image1.jpg, and descriptive alt text on every image, without keyword stuffing.

What image rules apply to my Google Merchant Center feed?

+
According to the product data specification, image_link needs a full, stable URL, and the image must be at least 500 x 500 pixels, which becomes mandatory for all products from January 31, 2027. About 1500 x 1500 pixels or larger is recommended. We coordinate with our Google Merchant Center service when the feed needs work.

Can I use watermarks or promotional text on main product images?

+
Not on the main image. The Merchant Center specification does not allow watermarks, promotional text, added logos or placeholder images in image_link. The same specification points to additional_image_link for extra angles.

Should my product images be in an image sitemap?

+
It can help. Google says an image sitemap helps it discover images it might otherwise miss, and it can reference images hosted on a CDN. If you use a CDN domain, Google recommends verifying it in Search Console.

Which image formats can I use?

+
Google Search supports BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG, WebP, SVG and AVIF in the img element, and Merchant Center lists JPEG, WebP, PNG, GIF, BMP and TIFF for image_link. In both cases the file extension must match the real format.

Do AI-generated product images need anything special?

+
The Merchant Center specification asks you to keep the embedded IPTC DigitalSourceType metadata in AI-generated images and not to strip it. We include this in the asset rules we agree with your team.

What should I share to start a DAM image review?

+
Ask for the free SEO audit on the contact page and tell us where your images and files are stored and which channels publish them. We reply with the assets and metadata to check first.
