Shopify makes it easy to connect a store to Google Merchant Center. That is also why many Shopify stores stop there: the products sync, but titles are weak, attributes are missing and errors pile up. This guide covers the setup and the problems we see most often.
How to connect Shopify to Merchant Center
- Install Google’s sales channel app for Shopify from the Shopify App Store.
- Connect your Google account and create or select a Merchant Center account.
- Let the app verify and claim your store’s domain.
- Review shipping and return settings so they match your store.
- Choose which products to sync and wait for Google’s review.
What the app does and what it doesn’t
The app sends your product data to Merchant Center and keeps price and stock updated. It does not rewrite your titles for search, fill attributes your products don’t have in Shopify, or fix policy problems on your site. Whatever is weak in your Shopify product data will be weak on Google too.
The most common errors
Missing identifiers
Branded products need a GTIN (the barcode number) and a brand. Add them in the barcode and vendor fields in Shopify. Products you make yourself may have no GTIN; in that case they should be marked as having no identifier.
Price mismatches
Apps that change prices on the page, currency converters or discounts applied only by script can make the price Google sees on the page different from the one in the feed.
Variants without the right attributes
Apparel and products with options need color and size set up as proper options, so each variant reaches Google with its own data.
Policy and trust issues
Missing contact details or return policy can trigger a misrepresentation suspension. Fill in the policy pages and make them easy to find from every page.
Going beyond the basic sync
- Write product titles that start with the product type and include brand and key attributes.
- Use product types and custom labels to group products for your campaigns.
- Run a full review with our Merchant Center audit checklist.
If you want this done for you, our Google Merchant Center agency works with Shopify stores in English and Spanish.
FAQs
Do I need a paid feed app on Shopify?
Not always. Google’s app is enough for many stores. Large catalogs or stores selling in several languages often need more control over the feed.
Why are some of my Shopify products not showing on Google?
Check the product issues in Merchant Center. Most of the time it is missing identifiers, a price mismatch or a policy issue.
