Product feed management is the ongoing work of keeping your catalog data correct, complete and optimized for Google Merchant Center. For stores with large or changing catalogs, it is often the difference between products that sell on Google and products that never show.
What feed management includes
Feed generation
Building the feed from your ecommerce platform, ERP or PIM, choosing which products and attributes to send, and scheduling updates so prices and stock stay current.
Data cleanup
Fixing missing identifiers, wrong categories, inconsistent sizes and colors, and any value Google rejects. Our list of reasons products get disapproved shows what this work usually covers.
Optimization
Rewriting titles and descriptions for search, filling optional attributes, assigning product types and adding custom labels so campaigns can be split by margin, season or best sellers.
Monitoring
Checking the account regularly, catching new disapprovals early and adapting to changes in Google’s requirements.
Reporting
Explaining what changed, which issues were fixed and how products are performing.
How pricing is usually structured
There is no standard price, but most providers use one of these models:
- One-off setup: a fixed fee to audit, build or rebuild the feed.
- Monthly retainer: a fixed monthly fee for management and monitoring, often depending on catalog size and number of countries.
- Per task: paid by the hour or by project, common with freelance consultants.
Ask what is included in each model. A low monthly fee that excludes suspensions or new countries can end up costing more.
Questions to ask before you sign
- Who owns the Merchant Center account and the feed?
- How often is the feed updated, and from which source?
- What happens if the account gets suspended?
- Is optimization included, or only maintenance?
- What will you report every month?
Not sure whether you need a freelancer or a team? Compare them in consultant vs agency, and see what a Google Merchant Center agency does.
How Avafa works
Our Google Merchant Center agency starts with an audit (see our audit checklist), proposes the scope and then manages the feed month to month, in English and Spanish.
FAQs
Can I manage my feed myself?
Yes, especially with a small, stable catalog. Feed management services make sense when the catalog is large, changes often or sells in several markets.
Do I need a feed tool as well as an agency?
It depends on your platform. Some stores need a feed tool to transform data; others can do it with their platform and Merchant Center rules.
